Pigeons: "Flying Rodents"

Pigeons are also known as doves or street pigeons and are descents of the wild rock doves. However, as they can spread diseases such as aspergillosis, cryptococcosis, histoplasmosis, listeriosis, psittacosis and salmonella, people started naming them as "flying rodents" due to public health concern. They are also known to cause property damage from their roosting habits and acidic droppings.

BIRDS' FACTS

There are over 40 known viruses and 60 transmittable diseases that are directly attributable to birds and their fecal matter. Also, birds carry up to 10 parasites on their legs, wings and bodies, and these usually co-exist in bird nests that are active. Parasites such as mites can find their ways into house and cause skin irritation and infection. Their dropping are highly acidic and can cause structural damage by corroding paint works and steel.
